RAIN Approach

Being a responsive and resilient provider really means taking the time to listen to your clients. It also means reflecting on your recommendations and approaches. Those are not always the easiest things to do in today’s productivity-focused environment.

To help facilitate conversations about the supports your clients need and want, we developed the RAIN Approach.

RAIN stands for:

Reach: How will your planned support(s) help the client/family reach their goals?

Awareness: How aware is the client/family of the need for supports? How do they learn new information best?

Inclusiveness: How will you make your plan inclusive of the client’s/family’s background?

Necessity: Why are the supports necessary? How will they be purposeful for the client? What are the criteria for discharge?

reMODEL

If you are responsible for professional training, professional development and/or support planning at a larger level (e.g., community agencies, school districts), we have developed reMODEL as a tool for incorporating community needs and histories into conversations. reMODEL was developed to provide the people who will be supported to have a place at the table when needs are discussed.

Provider Reflexivity Statements

There are times when moving forward in your own clinical practice means taking the time to do some self reflection. Maybe you feel stuck in your won practice. Maybe you are working with a clinical population that is new to you. Maybe you are returning to clinical practice after overcoming personal challenges. These events – and many others – are good times to reflect on your clinical practice, how you have come to your understanding of clinical practice, and how your own experiences can help you form closer connections to your clients. To help you with this process, we have developed a reflexivity statement that you can complete on your own.
